Introduction and Methods

Introduction
Physical activity and exercise are topics that everyone knows they should do, but many do not know how much to do that will be beneficial for them or they know but choose or have to be inactive. First, physical activity is different from exercise; physical activity is any movement an individual does, whereas, exercise is intentional or specific movements to increase fitness. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, a government funding association, adult, children, and others with special care needs have different guidelines. Since we are focusing on first-year college students, the adult guidelines are to achieve 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity or an equivalent combination per week. These minutes need to come in ten-minute bouts or they do not count towards the goal. Also, two times per week, individuals should involve muscular strengthening involving all the major muscle groups.
The health program knows many benefits from meeting the Physical Activity Guidelines such as cardiovascular fitness, cancer, mental health, and many more. They are still aspects of physical activity and exercise that are unclear to scientist. For example, they found that stretching has benefits to your physical activity and fitness, but it is not in the Physical Activity Guidelines because they are not certain how much stretching and what type of stretching is the best at what time. Since there are still some unknown aspects of physical activity and exercise, health providers go off the basics and get results from large populations rather than individuals, referred to as absolute terms.

Methods
Participates: Those who participated in this study was first-year college students from the University of Iowa, fall semester 2018. This study was posted on the University of Iowa Class of 2022 Facebook page, where sixty-six individuals responded to six questions.

Procedure: The student who participated in this study were asked a series of questions regarding their amounts of physical activity and exercise. This online survey was anonymous and took about a minute to complete. The data collected from this survey tells us a percentage of University of first-year Iowa students that meet the Physical Activity Guidelines and a percentage that does not. Another study similar to this survey was conducted Spring 2018 for all University of Iowa students. This data will be compared to the previous data to determine any changes or similarities between the two surveys.
